Liam Clancy, who died in 2009, was the youngest member of The Clancy Brothers. He was known for his powerful voice, and Bob Dylan considered him the greatest ballad singer ever and he was a hero to the young Dylan as he was learning his craft. He was a central figure in the folk revival of Europe and North America. Morning Glory can be found on Makem and Clancy's 1978 album Two for the Early Dew, and this version is from 1980s The Makem and Clancy Collection.

Amazing Urban Areas: King Chronic vs. Barrio Populaire feat. Las Balkanieras and "Balkan City"

Today's song is straight from the Balkans. Balkan City is a mixed mashup by King Chronic vs. Barrio Populaire and featuring Las Balkanieras. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about King Chronic or Barrio Populaire, but I was able to track down information about Las Balkanieras, a trio of three women from Croatia, Bosnia and Poland and residing in Germany. To quote their website: "...To conquer the world they combine an appealing appearance with references to their cultural heritage and a charming view on the nowadays role of women in general…" You can find Balkan City on the first disc of the various artists compilation The Balkan Club Night #2 (2011).

A Beautiful Name: The Secret of Roan Inish and "Fiona"

A movie about selkies in Ireland provides today's random tune. The Secret of Roan Inish centers on the tale of selkies - seals that can shed their skin to become human in appearance. The music for the film was written and arranged by Mason Daring, an American composer and musician who is largely known for his scores to films by John Sayles. This song, Fiona, can be found on The Secret of Roan Inish soundtrack (1995), and is the theme song of the young heroine of the story.

Slowing it Down: Dervish and "Slow Reels"

The Slow Reels you hear in today's random tune are by Dervish, a traditional Irish band from County Sligo described by the BBC as an icon of Irish music. Formed in 1989, they represented Ireland in 2007 in the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest. They have also been known to stand for their principles. In 2012 they canceled tour dates in Israel and announced a cultural boycott of the country, which in turn led to a negative backlash at home. Slow Reels can be heard on their 1997 album Live in Palma.
