For a Married Woman: Los Texmaniacs and "Por una Mujer Casada"
A tale of stealing a married woman is on tap for today's random tune, performed by Los Texmaniacs. From San Antonio, Texas, Los Texmaniacs were created in 1997 by Max Baca to play traditional conjunto and tejano music but also to incorporate rock and jazz while honoring the old traditions. Baca was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and followed his grandfather and father in learning the accordion beginning at age 5. He was invited by one of his idols, the great Flaco Jiménez, to play in Jiménez' band in San Antonio where he learned to play the bajo sexto (bass) using all six sets of strings in the traditional style. In forming Los Texmaniacs, Baca wanted to keep alive the style of another groundbreaking band, The Texas Tornados. This song, Por una Mujer Casada, can be found on their 2012 CD Texas Towns and Tex-Mex Sounds. In the song, a man tells of his love for a married woman, the threat of death from her husband, and how he plans to take her away.

Sister Act: The Sisters Morales and "La Mucura"
The Sisters Morales, originally from Tucson, Arizona are featured on the random tune for today. The siblings grew up learning traditional Mexican music and used that base to develop a pop sound. However, after high school they went their separate ways until 1989, when Roberta sang background vocals for a band that Lisa had formed. They decided to form a band together, including Lisa's husband on guitar, and moved to Houston where they attracted some interest from Nashville labels. They ultimately stayed independent and now operate from San Antonio, Texas. This song, La Mucura, can be found on their 2008 CD Talking to the River.

Throw-Wayyyy-Back Thursday: San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble (SAVAE) and "Esta es Cena de Amor Llena"
A real blast from the past is in today's random tune fitting with Throwback Thursday. The San Antonio Vocal Arts Ensemble (SAVAE) went back to colonial Mexico. This tune, Esta es Cena de Amor Llena, was written by Tomás Pascual in the 16th century. The lyrics refer to the Mass:
This is a supper full of love,
this is a supper of love.
When we are in this supper there is love,
and it is love that He has ordained as a great glory.
Since such a supper has been created
it has been maintained for all.
This alone unites us
because it includes His essence.
SAVAE is a unique ancient vocal music ensemble that is accompanied by early and traditional instrumentation. They made their debut in 1989 presenting Latin music from the colonial period. Its artistic director, Christopher Moroney, has penned arrangements and new compositions for the group, that has involved delving into ancient history and cultures. The group has been featured on national radio shows and has toured the United States and around the world. Esta es Cena de Amor Llena can be found on their 2000 album El Milagro de Guadalupe.
