Conscientious Reggae: Johnny Osbourne and Wayne Smith with "Conscious Anthem"

Reggae is on tap for today's random tune by Jamaicans Johnny Osbourne and Wayne Smith. Known as the Dancehall Godfather, Johnny Osbourne is one of the most popular Jamaican reggae singers and dancehall singers of all time. He has had a string of hits, including reggae covers of U.S. hits and a lot of songs that have the phrase "rub a dub" in the title. The late Wayne Smith was another popular reggae and dancehall singer, and his 1985 hit Under Mi Sleng Teng is widely thought to have brought reggae into the digital age and is one of the first examples of ragga. He died in 2014 at the age of 48. This song, Conscious Anthem, was released as a single in 2010 but can also be found on the album Heartical & BDF's Real Rock Showcase (2007).

Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
