I Want You to Want Me: Gael García Bernal and "Quiero Que Me Quieras"

A fun movie that we saw a few years ago, Rudo y Cursi, provides us with today's random song, Quiero Que Me Quieras. Yes, it is a Norteño-style cover of Cheap Trick's I Want You to Want Me, and it is sung by Mexican actor Gael García Bernal . The 2008 movie Rudo y Cursi is about two half-brothers, played by Bernal and Diego Luna, who are small-town soccer players that dream of using their skills in the game to get off the plantation. Gael García Bernal is a Mexican actor, director and producer best known for roles in movies such as Amores Perros, The Motorcycle Diaries, Babel and the television series Mozart in the Jungle. The context of the video is that Bernal's character has become a major soccer star in Mexico City, with all the celebrity that comes with it. That includes making music videos even though he is not a musician. You can find Quiero Que Me Quieras on the soundtrack for Rudo y Cursi (2009).

Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
