A blog about world and global music from a guy who co-hosts the KUNM Global Music Show, 89.9 FM Albuquerque/Santa Fe, http://www.kunm.org. I post one song a day, with reflections on the music, life, and whatever else comes into my mind.

A Gypsy Serenade: Waterson:Carthy and "Raggle Taggle Gipsies"
Our random tune for today is performed by English folk group Waterson:Carthy, which evolved from the earlier folk group The Watersons. Made up primarily of guitarist Martin Carthy, his spouse Norma Waterson on vocals, and their daughter Eliza Carthy on vocals and fiddle, the group also features Saul Rose on melodeon. The group released their first album in 1994, and have released eight albums. This song, Raggle Taggle Gipsies, won the BBC 2 Award for Folk Music in the best traditional track category in 2000, and the group won best group in that same year. The story recounts a countess who ran away with the aforementioned gipsies - of course the gypsies were hung when caught, and can be found on their 1999 album Broken Ground
Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
