A blog about world and global music from a guy who co-hosts the KUNM Global Music Show, 89.9 FM Albuquerque/Santa Fe, http://www.kunm.org. I post one song a day, with reflections on the music, life, and whatever else comes into my mind.

Go Ask Alice About Addis: Dub Colossus and "Guragigna"
Today's random tune is by Dub Colossus and is called Guragigna. Dub Colossus is a project of Englishman Nick Page, also known as Dubulah, who is a guitar and bass player, programmer and composer. Page's past efforts included stints with Steel Pulse and as a founding member of Transglobal Underground. In 2006, he traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to collaborate with musicians and explore musical styles from traditional Azmari songs to other Ethiopian music such as 1960s Ethiopian pop, Ethio-jazz and dub reggae. Page put together a group of Ethiopian musicians, many already stars in Africa, and recorded the first album under the Dub Colossus name. Guragigna comes from his second effort, 2011's Addis Through the Looking Glass. It can also be found on the 2012 various artists compilation Rough Guide to the Music of Ethiopia, and on 2014's various artists compilation Real World 25.
