A blog about world and global music from a guy who co-hosts the KUNM Global Music Show, 89.9 FM Albuquerque/Santa Fe, http://www.kunm.org. I post one song a day, with reflections on the music, life, and whatever else comes into my mind.

Pining for Martha: Norma Waterson and "The Flower of Sweet Strabane"
English musician Norma Waterson, an original member of the celebrated folk group The Watersons, brings us today's random tune. She released her first solo album in 1996, which featured collaborations with her daughter, Eliza Carthy, her husband Martin Carthy, and other luminaries such as Danny Thompson of Pentangle and Richard Thompson of Fairport Convention. She continues to perform with her daughter and husband in Waterson-Carthy and is a member of the folk supergroup Blue Murder, as well as releasing solo material. The Yorkshire Post has called her "the grand dame of British folk music." This song, Flower of Sweet Strabane, can be found on her album Bright Shiny Morning (2000).
Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
