A blog about world and global music from a guy who co-hosts the KUNM Global Music Show, 89.9 FM Albuquerque/Santa Fe, http://www.kunm.org. I post one song a day, with reflections on the music, life, and whatever else comes into my mind.

From Macedonia to You: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble with Black Sea Hotel and "Sadila Jana"
Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble and Balkan vocalists Black Sea Hotel bring us a song called Sadila Jana. Yo-Yo Ma is a Chinese American cellist, a onetime child prodigy who has performed with orchestras around the world, and has also ventured out of traditional classical music to record American bluegrass music, traditional Chinese music, Argentine tangos and Brazilian music. His Silk Road Ensemble is a project to bring musicians together from countries associated with the historical Silk Road. Black Sea Hotel is a New York-based vocal group that gathers music from master singers, archival recordings, and other choral arrangements to create their tripartite harmonies. You can find Sadila Jana on Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensembles' 2016 album Sing Me Home, which Yo-Yo Ma describes as a tribute to culture and how it helps people meet, connect and create new things. The song is a traditional Macedonian folk tune.
Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
