A blog about world and global music from a guy who co-hosts the KUNM Global Music Show, 89.9 FM Albuquerque/Santa Fe, http://www.kunm.org. I post one song a day, with reflections on the music, life, and whatever else comes into my mind.

Spiritual Ambients: Shiva in Exile and "Oriental Distortion"
Today's random song is an ambient, drone-style piece called Oriental Distortion. It is by Shiva in Exile, which is a new age/oriental/gothic project started in 2003 and whose lead vocalist and composer is Stefan Hertrich of Munich, Germany, a former video game soundtrack composer who was also a member of goth metal band Darkseed. The name of the band Shiva in Exile is supposed to convey that the modern world may lack a collective spirituality and morality. You can find Oriental Distortion on their 2002 album Ethnic, though I found the song on a special collection called CARE: I am Powerful - Music to Empower Women (2007).
Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard Time. Live streaming, program information and the two-week digital archive can be found at http://www.kunm.org.
